Dress the Part - Mercenary & Hooker

Fast & Easty!  I fit both of these costumes into themed handbags.
I was shopping in a chain-store's discount aisles in the jewelry and handbag departments.  The garish things that I found there should really be found only on Halloween aisles.  There were great bargains for cheap items that work well for costumes though.  Here's how I sorted through the rubbish to find a few jems.

1) Pick a theme for a character and stick with it.  Keep the character concept in mind while shopping.  This will prevent you from ending up with extra items that have no purpose.

2) Pick a color scheme.  This makes mixing and matching items for the character very easy.  It also prevents you from buying items that seem cool for the concept but don't work together in the end.  Again, you don't want to buy extra things that you'll never use.

3) The cheaper the better!  Unless the item you are buying for your character is something that you, the real life person, would wear, it's not worth spending too much money on it.  Then again if you're dressing like your character too much, maybe you need to question why you dress like steam punk pirate when you go to the office.

Mercenary

Mercenary work is good work if you can get it.
Concept - For this outfit, I was thinking about a mercenary/thief/thug.  All of these items can be reused for other character concepts in the future.

Color Scheme - Camo & Black

Gloves - cheap, black gloves that came in a pack of two pairs for $1.50.  The second pair I took a scissors to and cut off the finger tips to make them feel more "thuggish".

Camo Bandana - $1, so cheap that I couldn't pass up on it.

Black stocking cap - a very reusable item (that could even be used for "real life") for less than $3.

Camo Purse - the big ticket item for this character.  This item was on clearance for $8.

Prescription Sunglasses - free because I already owned them.  There were some nice "aviator" sunglasses on clearance for $5 that I almost picked up.

Prostitute
So classy trashy!
Concept - These items are for a character that I played in a FIASCO game recently.  It was set in Vegas and my character was a rather ambitious prostitute.  Brandi, will be getting a second chance at life in an upcoming GEIST campaign that I'm playing in.

Color Scheme - Black, White and Silver
Sunglasses - These sun glasses are black and white with a cheetah pattern along the rim.  They're so tacky that I couldn't pass them up.  The sunglasses were on clearance for $3.

Zebra Stripped Bandana - $1, too cheap to pass up.

Hand Bag - $6 on clearance.  This purse could very well have been ditched in a dumpster after prom.

Bangles - a $1 package of white plastic and silver metallic bangles from the young teens' section of the jewelry department were so cheap that I promptly put back the $6 silver bangles that I had found earlier in the adult jewelry section.

Silver Star Earrings - $1 another cheap item from the tween jewelry section.

Very trashy makeup - $1 or less each - red/black/white nail polish, super red lipstick, tick black eye liner and cheap/spray perfume (to wear a bit too much of).  These items go along with the regular makeup I'd be wearing anyway, they just "class it down".
